Training

Wow it has been quite a few weeks since the last blog but we are now back ontrack.
Paul has been the only one consistantly training and getting inot the lake at Leyborne, i think he is ready for the channel now. Lizzie and Rod have had their set backs with injuries but Rod is back after treatment and ongoing physio and Lizzie although in need of another op is holding that off until after the swim if the surgeon agrees. Tim is fit and well nd getting on with training.
We are all looking forward to the big push after the new years celebrations so that we are ready for the swim come July 2012.
we went to Leyborne last Sat but forgot to check first and the lake was closed for swimming as Pete is off sick although did stick my head in the water which was a cool 7 or 8 degrees C.

Well that all for now will pick up again soon. We need loads of sponsorship please get everyone you know to sponsor our swim.

Update from Rod at last

Well it has been a while and since the last time we have had the Poole Windfest Swim cancelled due to bad sea conditions. We were all gutted but i suppose safety is the organisers first priority.
The good thing is that we are still pushing the fundraising and trying hard to get the interest in what we are doing.
We have the fundraising auction coming up on the 20th October and i have tickets available if you are interested.
Winter training will begin soon and we will all be tested and authorised to swim in the open water lake.
Hopfully Paul will make an entry about his Ironman experience of today, a 3.8km swim.
Keep following and get everyone you meet to check out our web fundraising page.

Pauls 1st open swim

Well my 1st open swim at Marlow on the river Thames was a full on event. Getting there nice an early checked in and settled down for my swim. As advised i kept to the back but still got caught up in the event and took on allot of water and had a bit of a panic attack. Having about 20 people swim over the top of you did not help my situation. After 500m i got into my swim and i was off, 3k later and 56:18 under my belt i cam in 77th out of 276 so good result. Cant wait for my next 3k at sand banks in Dorset

catch up

Another weeek or so gone and we are now less than a year ago. Congratulations to my friend Claire who swam 2 weeks ago and their 6 man relay completed the swim. They had some tidal trouble and seasickness but made it in 16h30mins and the distance was a huge 33.3 miles.
She has said that it is now our turn next year and she hopes that we have a much easier time of than they did. Thanks Claire.
Training for all of us has been going along although all of us have had a setback or two we have picked up.
We had an interesting morning this morning being interviewed by Helen from TN16/CR6/CR2 magazines and we should have some exposure in September 2011 she also took a few pictures for the article too.
Good news for Lizzie is that she now has a good oportunity to get a good physio that understands EDS and will be able to treat her more effectively.
We have found a few relatively local resevoirs and lakes to train now and through the winter which is good news.
More news soon

swim update

Hi, well competions for all at the weekend. On Saturday Tim did his 3rd swim in the Great Swin Series and did a respectable 28 mins for the mile in London Docklands. Meanwhile Rod and Lizzie manned a patch at the Biggin Hill Festival and with the great weather we able to raise a respectable amount of money for the charities wearing the new t-shirts and displaying the news clipping from The Bromley News Shopper and the Biggin Hill News.
On Sunday Lizzie and Rod did a 3km (2mile) swim in Windsor in the Speedo Open Water series we both did well and finishe under the hour and within 90 secs of one another.
Since Karl is not able to carry on with the swimming we wish to welcome Paul Clarke to the team and look fwd to swimming and training with him.
Still looking for sponsors for the event and want loads of people to give to the charities on line on our web page.
Thanks for reading.
